What is dropshipment / dropshipping

MJA Updated by MJA

Dropshipping is a fulfillment method for web shops where the online store do not have the products offered in stock itself. As soon as a dropshipping store sells a product, it purchases the item from a supplier, often abroad, and has the product shipped directly to the customer. The dropshipper therefore never has to have the product in hand.

So the biggest difference between dropshipping and standard retail is that the seller does not need any inventory or storage space. Instead, only when an order comes in, the seller purchases inventory from a third party with a wide range of products (generally a wholesaler or manufacturer), who then fulfills the orders.
